✍️ Poem for Peace

Peace cannot be decreed; it must be built. But how can we build a peaceful world when our factories run day and night producing instruments of death? How can we claim to value life when we invest billions in what destroys it?

Let us stop turning a blind eye. Every shell produced, every missile assembled, every tank rolling off the production line means a school that is not built, a well that is not dug, a forest that is left to burn.

I say this emphatically: humanity’s enemy is not the other, but our own madness. The urgent priority is not to protect ourselves from one another, but to come together to protect our one and only home.

Imagine. Imagine if the vast sums of money poured into weapons were instead used for ocean-going vessels that clean up plastic, solar panels that bring light to the last village without electricity, vertical farms that feed the hungry, and trees planted as far as the eye can see so that our children can breathe.

Transform the steelworks of war into workshops for the future. Convert the ballistics engineers into inventors of life. Let us make peace not a truce, but a shared, ambitious and sublime project.

Yes, it is a radical choice. Yes, it is a bet on humanity. But what do we have that is more precious than our survival? The world will only be at peace when we understand that our only legitimate fight is the one against ecological disaster, against hunger, against ignorance.

Let us dare to disarm in order to morally and ecologically rearm humanity. The true power of a nation is no longer measured by its arsenal, but by the quality of the air it leaves to its grandchildren.

Let us stop manufacturing fear. Let us put ourselves at the service of life. It is time. It is high time. So that humanity may not only survive, but thrive.

“An appeal to transform the forces devoted to destruction into forces serving life, making peace a genuine shared project for humanity and future generations.”
