We were born under different skies,
With our dreams, the things that matter most to us.
Different colours, different prayers,
But the same blood, the same dust.
Why walls? Why borders?
When the bird flies above the Earth.
Why hatred? Why the fighting?
When every mother mourns the same soldier.
We invented weapons and wars,
Then asked for peace in our prayers.
We taught our children our differences,
Before teaching them tolerance.
Yet a tear, wherever it is shed,
Carries the same pain, the same truth.
And beneath the flags, beneath the colours,
We all hide the same fears.
The Earth is big enough for our differences,
But too small for all our hatred.
So let us lay down our weapons and our chains,
Before our children inherit our sorrows.
For peace will not come from a victor,
It may be born deep within our hearts.
And the day when humanity finally reaches out a hand,
Perhaps then… peace will have a tomorrow.
